It was precisely six o'clock in the morning when Delana rose from the sleeping nook where her bed lay embedded in the wall of her apartment. She opened the capsule door and rest her feet on the cold tile below. She pushed herself up and sleepily walked to the bathroom. The fluorescent light clicked on and burned her eyes. Her hands came to her face to rub the sleepiness out of them. She turned the sink on and scooped some cold water to splash on her face. Usually, that would wake her up, but today looked like it was definitely going to be a day for coffee. She stripped down and forced herself to take a shower.

Once clean and dressed in her usual work attire, a white button-up with some sort of work pant, she finished her morning routine. She filled her boy with one cup of coffee and a yogurt mixed with some concoction of fruits. Delana grabbed her badge and cuffs before unlocking her gun from the safe she kept it in at night. She fitted her holster around her waist and reached for her gun. It felt cold and heavy in her hands. Delana stopped for a moment to look at it and thought about the very few times she ever had to pull it from her holster. A beeping broke her thought as she realized it was time to leave or she would be late.

Delana put a jacket on to conceal her weapon and headed out the door of her small apartment. When she made her way 20 floors down to the exit, her nose was met with the very familiar smell of Hong Kong. She walked briskly to the nearest train station and hopped on her usual train. She never really thought of much on the train unless something important at work was going on. Her stomach was beginning to tighten as she thought about her recent promotion. Delana had worked on petty theft crimes before recently being promoted to the homicide unit. It was going to be a huge change and there was also the fact that homicide usually paired detectives up. Delana had worked with very few partners in the past and was anxious to know who she would be partnering with.

When she arrived at her stop, she quickly checked her surroundings out of force of habit. She always wanted to make sure no one was following her to work because of the nature of her job. Delana went through security and proceeded to the fifth floor, her new stop. The door opened and the usual bustling of the office filled the air with noise. Chief Warren was making the round and checking in with everyone's work. "Detective Basset, it's good to see you're on time to your first day," he joked. "Of course, sir," she replied. She was intimidated by him. His left eye was cybernetic and had a somewhat creepy blue glow to it. Delana was not interested in modifying her body in that way. Chief Warren patted her on the shoulder,"Your desk will be in the back toward the window, I'll be handing out partner assignments later today so I can get you lazy asses to work." He laughed and she nodded and smiled before walking to her new home.

The desk was nothing special, actually, it looked quite old. That's what she got for being new, she guessed. Delana sat down in the chair behind it and looked out the window. There wasn't much of a view anywhere in the city these days. The lights of the previous night were still glowing as the sun had yet to fully come up. Delana started reading through the old files left behind by her predecessor and waited to be called for the meeting where she would learn about her new partner.
