    Miles Faulkner 800full-alex-pettyfer

    Name: Miles Faulkner

    Age: 28

    Height: 6”0

    Hair color: Blonde

    Eye color: Dark Green

Bio: Miles is a detective in the Homicide Division of the Central Hong Kong Police and has been for 10 years. He quickly worked his way up immediately after graduating from the academy at 18 years of age. He only worked on a beat for about a 2 years before making an incredibly amount of progress in his precinct and showing a great amount of diligence and independence when it came to police work. From there he had risen from the lower detective ranks up until he had finally gotten into the Homicide Division, which he has been a part of for the last 3 years. The first of which was with his past partner, Virgil Hayabusa up until his sudden departure from the force. Miles, choosing to work alone and dejected, now focuses on getting into the Vice Division to further investigate the sudden rise of a new synthetic drug that’s being trafficked through Hong Kong via the most prominent gangs, one of which happens to be the Yakuza. Miles hopes that cracking down on them will not only put a stop to the sharp rise of local crime, but to also find some answers about his past partners activity and just why he had left the force so suddenly.

Background: Miles was born to an American father and English mother on the east coast of the United States. He spent most of his childhood there but moved to Hong Kong about the time he was 16 due to his father’s job with Interpol. It was hard for Miles to adjust to the radical change, on top of being the kind of guy who was snarky and didn’t really care for the established hierarchy of the charter school he was enrolled in. Things seemed bleak for him until he met Virgil, another student his age who would quickly become his best friend. Virgil could handle Miles’ anti-social mannerisms through his own clever commentary and shared similar interests, thus leading into the two of them to be inseparable. Both boys finished high school together and discovered that they shared the same goal of becoming well respected officers like their fathers and immediately joined the Academy right out of high school. They started their police career at the same time, sharing different partners from the start but joining forces again once they became detectives. Both were hailed as the best duo in the department’s history, breaking multiple records when it came to number of arrests and successfully solved cases. All seemed well until they moved into Homicide. Their first major case leading involving a mass murder of a rival gang to the Yakuza would end up being their last together. With how the new Chief decided to keep this under wraps and unlawfully filed the case as complete, leading to the arrest of another gang leader who had nothing to do with the incident in order to cover for the Yakuza. Both men knew that something was fishy ever since the new chief had taken command, especially when it came to Yakuza related cases. Virgil felt hopeless with being a detective and quit after being on multiple cases where the real perpetrators weren’t being apprehended. Leaving so suddenly and seemingly going off the grid, Miles felt crushed and ultimately depressed. Not only had he lost his partner but a friend he considered his brother. That sadness didn’t last very long as he turned it into determination and ultimately anger; anger towards that powers in charge covering for the real criminals and himself. From there on, Miles dedicated all of his effort to getting up in to the next division at near self-destructive levels. He had no interest in replacing his partner and had been considered somewhat of a loner, one who was unapproachable and disturbed. In reality, it was a way to hide his anger and confusion, not wanting to let his other fellow officers down, and to keep face with his chief.

Personality: Miles has always been a man of few words, not choosing to initiate conversation unless absolutely necessary. And when he does choose to speak, he typically speaks in a neutral tone, not really showing off his emotions, in somewhat of a stand offish manner. This isn’t due to having a superiority complex but rather believing that the less he gets involved in other people’s business, the less trouble he finds himself in. His dry sense of humor and snarky, sarcastic choice of responses get him into trouble nonetheless. He’s generally polite to his coworkers and even nicer to a select few in the department, but outside of that, he typically says very little to those around him. When it comes to his work, he has laser-like focus, combing over small details multiple times even when it’s deemed unnecessary, as well as an incredible memory, never forgetting people of interest’s names or faces. Miles always keeps a mental note of his surroundings and other people’s mannerisms, though he’s rather bad at addressing them. He’s often found at his desk working overnight, though it’s not known by his other coworkers what he does outside of the job on his free time as he very rarely takes days off. At the center of it all, Miles is a very guarded man, only expressing himself to a select few. Those who had been on the force as long as him tell that he wasn’t as stern as he is now when Virgil was on the force, but only a few can confirm.

Strengths: Miles is an expert interrogator, keeping detailed logs of a person’s mannerisms, quirks, and physical features in order to break down a suspect’s mental being to get the information he needs. He also has no qualms with being aggressive in his tone and physicality if need be. He was at the top of his class, alongside another female student who he can’t quite remember. Miles also excels in case study and investigation, always going a step above with analyzing evidence and cross referencing witness testimonies to help narrow down perpetrators. Above all, Miles is the best gunman on the force and possibly the country. He’s spent countless hours ever since his days in the academy honing his technique, breaking multiple records in terms of accuracy and amount of targets destroyed within a time limit on the target range. He chooses to wield a Smith and Wesson Model 64 double-action revolver rather than the standard issue Glock 17, a gun considered to be older by the current standards. Overall, he puts all of his efforts into his policework to ensure he can capture his assailants in the most efficient ways.

Weaknesses: Miles is rather curt and can get himself into trouble unintentionally, especially in social situations. He also tends to put off his paper work off to the last minute, often passing it off to other desk jockeys (that he pays for their work). Miles also has trouble trusting others and tends to push people away from him, even when its clear he needs help. However this isn’t the case when he’s in need of gear or intel as he has a list of his regulars that he visits when he’s in need. And while he maintains a steady workout regiment and is constantly on his feet on the job, he’d rather hit the ranges even if it means skipping out on hand to hand combat training, which is why Virgil was always the better fighter between the two.

    Other facts:

    - Miles’ favorite food are dumplings. He has an in-depth knowledge on the best dumpling spots in Hong Kong. His second favorite would be Dim Sum.

    - He is also a film enthusiast. Thanks to less strict censorship laws, Hong Kong has gone through a sort of film renaissance, in which a lot of local theaters have begun to have special screenings of older films that weren’t as widely released. A lot of which Miles has gone to see during his time off.

    - Arcades have also become more common place now that most games have been unbanned. Miles can be found in them from time to time, almost always with a familiar face from his past. Granted, he isn’t very good with the exception of the rail shooters.
